Ballet

Written by Sophia:
Ballet is a sport, only harder.

This is so true. I am so sure that ballet uses EVERY muscle in your body! Every single one! Ballet Also connects Amber and I together. We both love it, and we are both really dedicated to it. Somethings about dance only dancers understand.

Written by Amber:
Sophia is right, ballet uses every muscle in your body. Sometimes I'll come home and muscles I didn't know I had hurt! It is so fun having a friend who I have never met but who knows so much about ballet. When we finally meet, whether she comes here or I go there, We will watch each other dance!

Written By Sophia:
Only dancers understand ballet terms, and so some of the simple, easy things sounds really hard, and some of the more difficult things sound so easy. So whenever I am talking to my mom about what we did in ballet class that night, I normally have to show her in order for her to understand. Amber and I on the other hand know how hard fu-i-tays are, and how easy (on most days) sha-nays are, and we could talk online all day about dance, and our favorite parts, and the hard parts, and all that, and we can understand each other!

That's just one way dance conntects us.

It would be fun!

Our Meeting!

Amber:

I clicked it and it was done. I had officially booked my flight to Michigan. I felt so happy, I was actually going to meet her, Sophia, my pen pal, my best friend, a girl I knew but didn’t. I was finally going to meet her, hear her voice, and see her in person.

Sophia:

“Mail for you Sophia!”

“Coming!”

“Here you go.”

“Thanks mom.”

I went to my room which I share with my little sister, crossed her side, sat down on my bed and opened my letter.

“Dear Sophia, 10/ 19/ 09

I am doing well. I was a little worn out yesterday after dance practice but am my normal self today. How is dance and karate going for you? So when do you tech your next ‘So you wantna Rabbit’ class?

I have a surprise for you… I am sending you a large package that will arrive November sixteenth, it is a wonderful surprise and I am sure you’ll love it. It’s alright if your still at dance practice, I have e-mailed your mom telling her to bring it to you for it can’t wait.

Your P.P.F + B.F.F

Amber”

“Anything of interest?” asked my sister.

“Ya! Amber says she’s sending me a package.”

“Cool, did she say what it is or is it a surprise?”

“Surprise.”

Amber:

November 14th

I fingered the necklace Sophia had given me. I stared across my mom’s lap, out the window of the plane. I was so excited! “Drinks miss?”

“Huh, oh. Yes, sprite please.”

“There you are. Would you like me to leave a drink for your mother when she wakes up?”

“Oh, no. That’s ok.”

“Alright than. Anything else I can get you?”

“How long tell we land?”

“About an hour.”

“OK, thanks.” The flit attendant moved on. One hour I thought. One hour and I’ll be in Michigan!

*****

“Here Amber watch the bags I have to run after your sister…. Oh and watch for Grammie.”

Tomorrow I’ll meet her, tomorrow, tomorrow! “Oh, there’s Gram. Gideon go tell mom.”

Sophia:

2 days latter…

Mom seems really happy today, every time she sees me she smiles reel big. Hummm… Well I am happy too, today I’ll get my surprise from Amber!

“Mom you won’t forget to bring my package from Amber to dance right!?”

“Of course not.”

Amber:

“Mrs. Troxell?”

“Yes? Oh you must be Amber! How was your trip?”

“Good, thanks.”

“Well Sophia is at dance so would you like to drive over?”

“Yes!”

Sophia:

Shanae, Eshapei… Oh that’s my mom… Oh she brought the surprise! But where is it? She probably left it in the car. Humm….

Amber:

She looks confused, of course she probably is.

“Their almost done, remember the plan.”

“OK”

Oh here she comes! I heard someone (It must have been Sophia) say, “Hi Mom, did you bring the surprise?”

“Sure did! Close your eyes!”

I peeked through the door there she stood just like in her picture, her eyes were closed and her hands out stretched. Mrs. Troxell signaled to me, I walked through the door and stopped in front of Sophia.

“Hi Sophia!”

She opened her eyes, looked at me and a smile as big as the sun spread across her face!

Sophia:

I couldn’t believe it!

“Amber! Oh my goodness! Is it really you! I can’t believe it!” I said giving her a big hug.

“Yes it’s me! I watched you dance you were wonderful! I am so glad I finally met you!”

“You too! This is so sweet! When you wrote that you were sending a surprise I didn’t think it was going to be you! Oh here let me introduce you. Girls this is my Alaskan pen pal, Amber! Amber these are my friends and this is my teacher.”

Amber:

“Nice to meet you.” I said as Sophia named the girls gathered ‘round. But I could barley hear her words because I was so happy. All I could hear was her voice. I took it all in, her voice the way she moved how tall she was compared to me, everything! She must have been happy too for when she was done saying everyone’s name she just looked at me over and over.

After we had got to her house I met the rest of her family, dad, brothers, and her sister. I saw all of her many pets and finally we started planning our trip to American Girl Place. We would take the train and have all the fun we could, we had both been saving for this trip sense mom and Grammie had said that we would be going. We would spend the night in a hotel and go back the next morning. I didn’t care what we did as long as I could be with Sophia for as long as it lasts.

Sophia:

I was so happy. At the end of our visit when Amber went home I sated up long after I had climbed in bed just thinking about Amber, I didn’t think about tomorrow I just thought of today and what a great gift it was to meet her.

Looking back

I was looking back at some of the letters Sophia sent me and came across these...

From the very first letter... "To: Amber From: your new pen pal, who likes happy faces!"(then there were smileys all over the paper:)

July 2007... "DON'T LOSE THIS E-MAIL ADDRESS! CUT IT OUT AND TAPE IT TO YOUR COMPUTER!"

Oct. 2008... this letter was VERY colorful! It was written in all these shiny jell pens that were all different colors.

Dec. 2008... "I broke the box on my point shoe!..."

Jan. 12 2009... (this one was a little late) "Dear Amber, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy New year!"

Those were just somethings I like looking back at from letters. :D

My Friend *~*Sophia*~*

In the past years I have not had many friends, our neighbors do public school, the friends that do home school live all the way out in Kenai, 45 minuets away, and Homer, 1 hour & 30 minuets away and all my cousins all live out-of state. So when I met Sophia, even though it was just through pen pals, I was REALLY happy!

At first I thought we would forget to write but she was faithful and so was I. My mom did not know what to think at first, she thought it was good that I had found someone to be my friend but she still wanted me to have friends here. After a while she told me that it was cool that me and Sophia were friends even though we had never met, because friends are friends no mater how far apart!

Sophia is just what I thought a friend should be, kind, funny, gentle, has lot in common with myself and is a all together inspiration!

Sophia, thanks for being there for me and for being my friend. Your inner star is shinning BRIGHT!

Plans...

So now that we have explained how we got to know each other, it's time to start blogging about what connects us together: ballet, tap, family, God, friends, writing, reading, blogging, homeschooling, even bouncy balls!

You know, I think God put us together for a reason, I just don't know what that reason is yet, but he will tell us when it is time. Maybe it's just for friendships sake. I don't know about Amber, but in the past year I have had some hard times with so called "friends" and it was so nice having people there for me, really being my friend. Maybe it's for a bigger reason, but we just can't see the whole picture yet. Maybe it's for a totally different reason that I don't know about yet. Either way, I'm glad he put us together.

Amber has been such an inspiration. She's kind, funny, and all the other things that make a good friend. She loves her family and God, and I think that is something that you have to do before you can love your friends. Thanks Amber, for being that friend. :D

We don't really have any real plans for this blog, but I think (so far) it is ending up being about us and how we met and what connects us together.

This is Sophia, signing off 'till next time.

My side of the Friendship

My side of the friends goes much the same as Amber's. Here's my story:

In my homeschool group and lady set up something so you could get a Alaskan pen pal form another homeschool. I thought that it would be fun, but I honestly didn't think that it would last very long. I forget things and procrastinate, and I knew that I would forget to write back, and the same for my pen pal. So I filled out the application and sent it in. I was suppose to get two pen pals, because one person would get the information I filled out on the application and I got a different person's information. I never did receive a letter from my second pen pal, but I did get an information card. The lady tried to match information, and I got a pretty good match. The sheet said she loved to dance and write, and that she collected bouncy balls (which I did too). So I wrote to her, and she wrote back, and that's how it all began. That was about a year ago. Now our friendship has grown immensely. We have never seen each other in person, nor talked on the phone or even heard each other’s voices. We chat online whenever we are both on (the 4 hour time difference can sometimes be a challenge), and we email and, of course, write letters the "old fashion" way. Now we have a blog, where we will write about dance, which we both love; our friendship; and whatever else we feel connects us together.

I am so happy to have Amber for a friend, and I can't wait to meet. We are hoping sometime this summer, and we are making plans and getting all excited!

By the way, I live in MI and Amber lives in AK.

I hope you check this blog often, and please leave comments.

Have a nice day!

Our Friendship

We have been friends for a long time, this is how it began...

I had always wanted a pen pal and when my home school group was doing a Find Your Pen Pal I signed up, it was not long after that I got a letter with all my new Pen Pals information. Two things that stood out to me were:1. She liked dance just as much as I did, 2. Her brothers were just like mine, liking Lego's and thing's like that, so we had a lot in common. We started out writing back and forth, then went on to E-mailing and chatting. I have never seen her, herd her voice or even talked to her on the phone but we're friends just the same. We got our pointe shoes around the same time and were able to talk about trying them out and what are favorite part of dancing in them was. We talked about animals and she told me about 4-H projects she was doing and I told her about going to dance at the state fair. We are always happy for each other and tell each other about our day just as though we knew each other in person and were right there while it happened. We finally decided to start a blog together and write about dance and our friendship. She is my inspiration and I am glad we are friends and I hope we stay that way
